Send some Love! (Free Download)

cube diy photo

I’m so excited to share one of my favorite resources with you all today. I am always dabbling in vintage imagery & illustrations for mood boards, inspiration, etc, so when I first stumbled upon Biodiversity Heritage Library it was love at first “site”. They have hundreds of hi-res images of natural history and botanical illustrations. I could look through them all day- beautiful florals, funky fungi and some pretty gnarly insects. If I can ever narrow it down to a few favorites, I would love to mount and frame some for my kitchen.

I’ve been wanting to use these in a project for sometime and thought a Valentine’s DIY would be perfect! With the mix of modern calligraphy and great illustration, these are sure to send love and smiles to your valentine!

1. Download and print your favorite vintage valentine (or spread the love and print all 4!)

download “You are so Fly” template

download “You’re my Soul Mate” template

download “Peony” (blank card) template

download “You Kick…” template (for that sassy valentine!)

*Be sure when printing, the checkbox labeled “Scale to Printable Area” is not clicked, this will mess up your dimensions for the envelope.

2. Cut out cards with scissors or if you are perfectionist like me, use an exacto and metal ruler

3. Fold over, making edges meet (to get great crisp lines try using a bone folder. These are a great investment to have on hand if you’re a crafter.)

4. Fill with your love letters and romantic sonnets, then slip them into any A-2 Envelope. I used Kraft envelopes for mine, but any color would look great!

Thank you to Biodiversity Heritage Library for these amazing illustrations! With Valentines around the corner, I thought I would dress my desktop up with some of my favorite pink tone illustrations- what is more fitting then a pink peony and a sweet singing cockatoo.

Emily and Phil welcomed not one, but two new bundles into their home this past spring. I love how the photos capture sweet Alice and Charlie snuggled up together and how adorable is the photo with their two big brothers? So much love and emotion!  We wanted to make these perfect moments the centerpiece of the design with sweet touches of detail. What a beautiful beautiful family!

These adorable photos were taken by the talented Mindy Cummings Photography.

Natalie + Martin

We love these aztec inspired invites! Natalie, also an artist, has an amazing eye for detail and I love the color combination she went with- a warm gray, a pop of turquoise and all sealed together in a gorgeous kraft envelope.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Madison of madisoncary photography. I loved collaborating with another creative and although most of our interaction was over the inter-webs, Madison is one of those clients I can say quickly changed from just a client to a good friend. Her passion for mentoring young women and approach to encouraging a healthy fitness lifestyle (follow her on insta @madisoncarytiu for amazing workout and nutrition tips) is so incredibly inspiring!  Madison’s vision for her company goes far beyond a photograph as she focuses on encouraging senior girls to come to her for the whole experience- confidence, body image, and bringing out their beauty from within. When approaching her brand design, we focused on making it unique, boho-chic and modern. The crisp geometric lines and the angular shapes give it a wonderful recognizable personality. I love the way it compliments her images and brings out her fun style!

Claire + Ryan

Claire and Ryan are such an adorable couple. Anyone who has worked with Pearly Gates Designs knows we are huge dog lovers so when we heard Ryan proposed to Claire on her dog’s dog tag, we couldn’t hold in our girly AWEEEE! Claire and Ryan had a modern style ceremony in Dripping Springs so we wanted to tie that in with the save the dates. The gold foiling accents with the navy letterpress and sketch of the couple’s faces portray the couple’s modern and fun loving relationship perfectly– especially coupled with that adorable picture!

Colly + Arthur

A cheerful save the date to set the tone for a day full of love in good ol’ Austin, Texas! Colly and Arthur are head over heels for each other and I loved getting to design these cards to spread their cheer far and wide! I can’t wait to reveal their gorgeous wedding invitations and programs later this month.

Libby + Tate

Today’s post is an extra special one for me! Libby and her family hold a special spot in my heart and sharing in their special day was such an honor for me.

The bride and her mother (both of whom are brilliant designers) found a beautiful fabric with the perfect pinch of fun and a dash of sweetness to pull inspiration for the wedding design. The fabric was perfectly layered in throughout the wedding from the couples wedding cake table linen to the bridesmaid skirts. We even recreated the fabric to be used as the wedding invitation envelope liners. There is no denying God’s work in bringing Libby and Tate together and we paid tribute to this with a one-of-a-kind cross heading the invitation in raised gold ink.

Wishing you both the very best and thank you for letting me share in such a special day!

Catherine + Kolbe

I’m so excited to share my good friends, Catherine and Kolbe’s wedding invitations! Catherine and Kolbe’s wedding was a romantic dream that took place at her grandfather’s estate. With a surprise down pour of rain, you would never guess anything was awry by the happiness and love filling the air! We did a simple elegant design in raised silver ink cradled in a lush white enclosure and sealed with a beautiful satin ribbon.
